My wife, Cazandra, and I just returned from last-minute shopping before the big day. She prepares a tray of this, a tray of that, and a mess of something. Our kitchen is the best place to be during the holidays. My nose enjoys the feast as I smell the tasty meal treats cooked in the oven. Her attention to detail is second to none as she makes a feast for the family to share. I can hardly contain my excitement for tomorrow, knowing that the meal she prepared today will find a willing recipient next evening.
Like my wife, I spiritually prepare for tomorrow night’s feast. I finish clearing the things that keep me from fully worshipping God. I add the finishing touches to the guest room so that Jesus feels at home in the depths of my soul. I quickly look over my house to see if anything is out of place.
As I continue reviewing my spiritual list, I remember this truth: Jesus will be here tomorrow evening, whether I am ready or not. The only thing I can do is prepare as well as possible. I remember that my sacrifice is pleasing to God. I do all I can to prepare for this fantastic God’s coming yearly. He never refuses to leave if I ask him to stay.
The Savior is coming to fill our hearts on this day. I will invite Him in and learn from Him. He is my teacher, redeemer, and friend. My heart cries, “Teach me your ways, O Lord.” Then, an amazing thing happens: He transforms me into His likeness, inspiring hope and a sense of renewal. I see how all the preparation prepared me for the moment I encountered this fantastic and incredible God.
