With Halloween behind us, the rush towards the new year has officially begun. The last two months of the year always seem to fly by, especially for those of us in the church. The Advent Season, Christmas pageants, extra worship services, and all the other holiday festivities demand our attention. Often, I find myself breathless and unable to fully appreciate the sacred moments that this time in the church calendar offers.

I often find myself trying to slow down and savor the beauty of my favorite season, Fall. This season, with its vibrant colors and crisp air, brings a welcome respite from the dog days of Summer. It also serves as a poignant reminder to cherish the memories of loved ones who are no longer with us in body. And most importantly, it offers us an opportunity to give thanks for the blessings in life.

As the cool season begins, I can’t help but feel the excitement that comes with the change of seasons. The earth celebrates this change with a breathtaking display of colors that paint the trees with different hues, most notably in the Fall. The world seems to come alive with a new energy, inviting us to reconnect with friends and family.

This time of year serves as a powerful reminder that my expressions of thanks should not be limited to a particular season, but rather extend through every season offered to us by Divine grace. I carry blessings with me with every step I take. My acknowledgement of sacred moments must occur, even in times of struggle. Recalling God’s unconditional love is not just a source of peace, but also a profound reminder of the importance of gratitude in our lives.

I hear, “Joe, remember the Fall when you cannot recognize blessings in tough times. Remember, the season of difficulty will not stay with you forever. One season gives way to another, so do not get stuck in the toughest times. The holy presence wraps itself around you, offering Christ’s richest blessings. Remember, ‘You are fearfully and wonderfully made.’”

As we journey through this Fall season, I am determined to focus on the blessings that surround me. I hope this season will bring a heightened awareness of the Divine’s riches. I plan to take time to slow down, reflect, and remember the most important things in life.

Over the coming weeks, I intend to document the things that inspire gratitude in me. So, let’s begin the countdown to the new year. Amidst the chaos, I will make a conscious effort to rejoice and be glad.
