Jesus Christ as cornerstone surrounded by sculpted human figures in a stone wall under construction

“You yourselves are being built like living stones into a spiritual temple. You are being made into a holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2:5 CEB).

This morning, I am drawn to the idea of belonging to something bigger than myself. I think of the many shows I performed in, choir concerts, and teaching experiences. All depended on complete cooperation with others. It would not be a choir if only one person sang. Chords and harmony require many voices working together to create beautiful music.

In today’s reading, the apostle Peter emphasizes that each of us has a vital role in building God’s Kingdom on earth. He reminds us that Christ is the cornerstone of the house. Jesus’ place in the structure of the home is the foundation upon which all other bricks depend. Without the cornerstone, the entire building collapses, leaving only rubble. Our active involvement is essential to uphold this spiritual structure.

There is something that we realize as we build upon the solid rock, the cornerstone. We must complete the structure by adding other bricks. One stone is not enough to call it a building. To function as a developed space, we must have many stones to build a frame.

Hear the good news! We are the other bricks that depend on Jesus, the cornerstone. As part of the Kingdom of God, active participation is vital to uphold our faith. Remove one brick or person, and the wall may weaken. We must stand side by side, depending on Jesus as our foundation, knowing each of us is crucial in completing God’s masterpiece.

Community is vital in our lives. We must remember our churches and how God uses us to advance divine work in the world. Our contribution to Kingdom Building, through love and faith, is powerful. Never underestimate your role, because together our collective love overcomes darkness and fills the world with light.

Today, I pray that God will help each of us see our unique importance in helping others discover the wonder of our amazing Creator. May we be inspired to participate in His work actively. Amen.
